Corner Sofa FAQs

Corner sofas are larger than a standard 2 or 3-seater sofa, but at poltronesofà they come in a broad range of sizes, so there's one to suit most rooms.

For smaller spaces, a compact corner sofa such as the Jaxx 2 Corner 1 (246cm x 173cm x 89cm) gives you wraparound seating without overwhelming the room. If you've got more space to fill, a larger corner sofa design like the Mirabello 3 Corner 1 Sofa (317cm x 310cm x 90cm) offers plenty of room for the whole family to spread out.

Whichever size you're drawn to, measure your living room first - and don't forget to measure any doorways, hallways and stairwells the sofa will travel through, so it can be delivered safely to the room you want. If you're unsure, take a look at the poltronesofà sofa fitting guide.

A left-hand facing corner sofa has the longer section on your left as you face it; a right-hand facing corner sofa has it on your right. Which one you need depends entirely on your room layout.

Stand where you'd normally enter or sit, and picture the sofa in place. A wall, window or radiator on one side - or a doorway you need to keep clear - usually decides which way the chaise should run. It's also worth checking that nothing, like a TV unit or a walkway, ends up blocked by the longer side.

If you're still unsure, the poltronesofà corner sofa buying guide covers layout, orientation and materials in more detail.

The best position for a corner sofa depends on your room's layout and size. Commonly, it's placed against two adjacent walls, creating a cosy, intimate seating area ideal for small spaces. In larger rooms, it can float in the centre, defining different areas in an open-plan layout. Positioning it to face a focal point, such as a TV or fireplace, ensures a good view for everyone. Placing it near a window maximises natural light, while using it as a room divider can effectively separate different areas. Ensure there's enough space for movement and that the sofa complements other furniture pieces.

A corner sofa can be an excellent choice for a small room due to its space efficiency and versatility. By utilising otherwise unused corner space, it maximises seating without occupying excessive floor area. It offers ample seating for multiple people, eliminating the need for additional chairs that can clutter the room. A corner sofa helps define a seating area, making the room feel organised and functional. With sleek, modern designs, it adds style without overwhelming the space. Additionally, many corner sofas feature built-in storage or convertible options, enhancing the room's functionality. Overall, a corner sofa optimises space and provides versatile seating.

To measure for a corner sofa, start by measuring the length, width, and height of the area where the sofa will be placed, noting any features like doorways or windows. Measure entryways, hallways, and staircases to ensure the sofa can pass through during delivery. Check the sofa's overall dimensions, including the lengths of both sides, seat depth, and backrest height. Ensure there's 2-3 feet of clearance around the sofa for easy movement and proper spacing from other furniture. Creating a floor plan can help visualise the placement and ensure the sofa fits well within your space.

A modular sofa is made up of individual sections, rather than one fixed shape. Corner pieces, armless seats, chaise units and consoles connect together to form a configuration that can be built entirely around your space.
The customisable element of choosing a modular sofa, along with over 200 poltronesofà fabrics, leathers and colours, means two households can own the same range and end up with a sofa that feels entirely their own.

Key features of a modular sofa:
  • Built around your space - configure it as an L-shape, U-shape or straight sofa, sized and shaped to suit the room you actually have.
  • Tailored to your taste - with over 200 poltronesofà fabrics, leathers and colours available, you can choose a combination that feels uniquely yours.
  • Add-on features - many modular ranges let you build in recliner sections, storage consoles or built-in tech, so your sofa works exactly as hard as you need it to.
  • Easier to deliver - individual sections are lighter and easier to navigate through narrow doorways, hallways and staircases than one large fixed sofa.
