Modern Slavery Statement
A. Share & Sons Limited T/A Poltronesofà | June 2026
This statement is published in accordance with Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Our Business
The business operates 100 showrooms across Great Britain, alongside a transactional e-commerce website and is one of the UK’s leading upholstery retailers.
Our retail network is supported by nine regional distribution centres and a Head Office based in Sunderland. Across all functions, the business employs approximately 1,200 people.
Our Commitment
We have a zero-tolerance approach to slavery, servitude, forced labour and human trafficking, whether within our own business or throughout our supply chain in Great Britain and overseas.
We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to prevent, detect and address modern slavery and human trafficking.
We have established policies and procedures aligned with recognised industry practice, underpinned by our corporate values and principles. Together, these support our ongoing commitment to ensuring that modern slavery has no place within our operations or supply chain.
Our Supply Chain
We continue to develop and evolve our product range and supplier network to support the business’s strategic objectives and responsible sourcing commitments.
Following a review of our supplier base, approximately 60% of procurement is currently sourced from the Far East, with the remaining 40% sourced from the UK and Italy.
For the majority of our suppliers, we maintain long-standing relationships, with partners who share our commitment to ethical trading and the prevention of modern slavery. All suppliers are required to comply with our supplier terms and conditions, which set out our expectations regarding labour standards, health and safety procedures, anti-bribery and corruption controls and product quality requirements.
We also encourage our suppliers to become members of SEDEX, supporting greater transparency and responsible sourcing practices across our supply chain.
Our buying teams regularly engage with and visit key suppliers and we require all higher-risk suppliers to undergo independent social compliance audits. We review the outcomes of these audits to assess compliance and identify potential risks relating to modern slavery and wider ethical trading standards.
Risk Assessment
As an organisation, we recognise that there is a risk of modern slavery within both our operations and supply chain.
We adopt a risk-based approach to assessing our supply chain, taking into account the country risk profile of sourcing locations, informed by the Global Slavery Index, together with the inherent risks associated with the manufacture and category of goods produced in those regions.
This approach enables us to identify higher-risk areas within our supply chain and prioritise due diligence activities accordingly. Based on our assessment, we recognise certain sourcing regions, including the Far East, as presenting a higher risk of modern slavery and related ethical trade concerns.
Policies and Procedures
As part of our commitment to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking, we have a range of policies and standards in place, including:
Hiring Managers’ Guide to Recruitment and Onboarding
This guide ensures that appropriate checks are undertaken during recruitment and onboarding, including verification of employees’ legal right to work.
Whistleblowing
Poltronesofà operates a Whistleblowing policy, supported by the independent Safecall helpline, which enables employees and other stakeholders to report concerns relating to unethical or unlawful practices, including modern slavery.
All reports are taken seriously, fully investigated and appropriate corrective or remedial action is taken where necessary.
Anti-Bribery and Corruption
Poltronesofà operates an Anti-Bribery and Corruption policy, which sets out our expectations for conducting business ethically and transparently. The policy supports our wider commitment to responsible business practices and helps mitigate risks associated with unethical conduct within our operations and supply chain.
Due Diligence
We maintain long-standing relationships with the majority of our suppliers, with whom we share a commitment to ensuring that modern slavery does not occur within our supply chain.
Through our terms of business, we require suppliers to operate ethical manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with applicable local laws, the principles of the International Labour Organisation and with the nine principles of the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code.
Our Whistleblowing policy, supported by the independent Safecall helpline, provides a mechanism for reporting concerns, including those relating to human rights violations such as modern slavery. All reports are taken seriously, fully investigated and addressed through appropriate corrective action where required.
Commitments
In 2025 we:
- reviewed our supply base and monitored high risk areas;
- ensured that all new members of the buying teams were informed of the modern slavery policy and were required to report any concerns relating to modern slavery, forced labour or human trafficking;
- continued to encourage SEDEX membership, and
- insisted on SMETA audits for our high risk areas.
In 2026 we will:
- continue to develop and refine our supplier risk assessment framework to further strengthen early identification of modern slavery risks; and
- insist on SMETA or Amfori BSCI audits for our high risk countries.
The next Modern Slavery Statement will be published in May 2027.
Assessment of Effectiveness
We recognise that addressing modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility and we will continue to assess the effectiveness of our approach through our established risk management framework and due diligence processes.
Poltronesofà continues to strengthen communication and engagement with suppliers on this topic to support our shared commitment to preventing and addressing modern slavery within our supply chain.
